I recently upgraded Forex Tester from version 4 to 5, and at that time I also signed up for the *monthly* VIP data plan.
\nIn this post, I\u2019m going to walk through how to cancel that VIP data subscription.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been about a month since I purchased the VIP data, so I\u2019ll also show you what you should do before you cancel it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Alright, let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need your historical data to be constantly up to date<\/h2>\n

First of all, it\u2019s pretty much common knowledge that no one<\/strong> can predict the future of the market.<\/p>\n

At the same time, there\u2019s another fact that never changes:<\/p>\n

> In both the past and the future, it\u2019s people who move the market.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s exactly why we can make a profit by digging into *real* historical data, finding patterns in price movement, and building trading strategies that give us even a slightly higher win rate.<\/p>\n

To find those patterns, you obviously need past data.<\/p>\n

And to make a high win rate stable<\/strong>, there\u2019s no shortcut \u2014 you just have to run a lot of tests.<\/p>\n

If you try to do all of this only through live trading, it costs you time, energy, and real money you can afford to lose.<\/p>\n

So naturally, backtesting software that lets you efficiently run through a ton of trades using historical data becomes super useful.<\/p>\n

As I\u2019ve explained so far, you do need a large amount of historical data to build a strategy that can consistently deliver a high win rate \u2014 but there is absolutely no need<\/strong>\u00a0for that data to always be the most recent.<\/p>\n

Rather than paying a monthly fee just to keep your data constantly up to date, I personally think it\u2019s much smarter to use past data to quickly build a winning strategy, and put that money into your live trading capital instead.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What you should do *before* canceling the VIP Data plan<\/h2>\n

Before canceling, you\u2019ll want to download the historical data<\/strong> for all the currency pairs you plan to backtest from now on, and save that data as CSV files<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What is historical data?<\/h3>\n

Put simply, *historical data* is the past price data you use when running backtests in Forex Tester.<\/p>\n

For some currency pairs, data is already downloaded when you install Forex Tester, but even in those cases, I\u2019d still recommend cleaning things up and refreshing the data once before you cancel.<\/p>\n

For each currency pair, you can download historical data from May 6, 2003<\/strong>\u00a0all the way up to the day before the date you run the download<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You have to download it pair by pair<\/strong>, and depending on your internet connection it can take quite a while, so I think it\u2019s best to start a few days before your planned cancellation date and work through it little by little.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
